
This is the list of people honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards by President Prathiba Patel at the seventh PBD meet in Chennai on January 9, 2009।

2) Angidi Veeriah Chettiar, Vice-President, Republic of Mauritius.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his contributions to Indo-Mauritian friendship.

Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his contributions to the welfare of the Indian community.
4) Deepak Obhrai, Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Canada.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his contributions in strengthening of India-Canada relations.
5) Ylias Akbaraly, prominent businessman from Madasgar.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his contribution in strengthening of the India-Malagasy relations and for his service to the Indian Diaspora.
6) G. Vadiveloo, the only Malaysian-Indian to be elected as the President of the Malaysian Senate.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his services to the Indian community in Malaysia.
7) Ram Lakhina, Chairman of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Foundation, Amsterdam.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his pioneering contribution to the welfare of Indian community in Netherlands.
8) P N C Menon, eminent philanthropist with a deep commitment to social service.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his dedicated social service and for his philanthropic activities.
9) Parmananthan ‘Prema’ Naidoo, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment in the city of Johannesburg.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his exemplary services in ameliorating the plight of South Africans of Indian descent.
10) J R Gangaramani, founder member of Indian Business and Professional Group, Abu Dhabi.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his dedicated service to the Indian community in the UAE.
11) Baroness Shreela Flather, Member of the House of Lords.
Reason for honour: She has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Indian community in the UK through her public service.
l2) Prof CK Prahalad, Professor, University of Michigan-Business School.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his enormous contributions in the field of management and for enhancing the understanding of India through his academic work.
13) Prof Sumit Ganguly, Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, USA.
Reason for honour: He has been recognised for his stellar contribution to political thought and for fostering the understanding of India through his scholarship.
